Adoption fee varies by organisation (typically R600–R1500)
This usually covers:
1. Application to Adopt
An Application to Adopt form must be completed by all prospective adopters, unless you have adopted from a listed organisation on Pet Central within the last 3 months.
2. Viewing of Animals
Viewing of animals is by appointment only. An appointment will only be scheduled after receipt and review of your completed Application to Adopt form.
3. Meet & Greet
If necessary, a meet and greet with other pets may also be arranged to ensure compatibility.
4. Finalising the Adoption
Once approved, an additional appointment will be arranged to complete the adoption. This includes:Signing the adoption contract.Paying the applicable adoption fee (see below for fee details).
5. Non-Refundable Deposit
A non-refundable deposit may be required to book an animal. This deposit is usually part of the total adoption fee and is non-refundable to cover administrative costs. The exact amount and conditions will vary depending on the listed animal and the adopting organisation.
6. Age Requirement
Applicants must be 18 years or older.
7. Organisation’s Right to Approve or Reject
Pet Central facilitates the adoption process, but the listed organisation retains the right to approve or reject an application at any stage. The organisations may reject an application for a specific pet but may recommend others that are better suited to the applicant’s needs.
8. Animal Compatibility
We strive to adopt animals into homes that are best suited to their needs. In some cases, a specific animal may not be the right fit for an adopter’s home, and we may suggest a more compatible option.
9. Restrictions for Young Animals
Animals younger than 6 months that are not yet sterilised may have adoption restrictions. For example, they cannot be adopted outside of a 1-hour radius from the organisation’s base unless the adopter can travel to one of the organisation’s partner veterinarians for sterilisation.
10. Puppy Classes
In certain circumstances, adopters may be required to pay for compulsory puppy classes for specific breeds (e.g., power breeds) or situations. This fee will be added to the standard adoption fee.

Final Notes
Pet Central acts as a facilitator for adoption inquiries and helps to connect potential adopters with Animal Welfare Organisations.
The adoption process and final decisions are managed by the respective organisations listing their animals.
Please check with the organisation listing the pet for specific details about adoption fees, requirements, and processes, as these may vary.
